Watershed Protection Fund

Attached is a PSA and information on the Watershed Protection Fund, which receives dollars from the check-offs on state tax returns.  Please pass the word about this program and encourage your members, friends, etc. to make a check-off donation.  This was put together with Evergreen TU's own Hugh Gardner with footage from the Greenback video - thanks Hugh, for your efforts on this.

2008 CTU Youth Camp

Wes Carey     Cherry Creek Anglers is pleased to announce that one of our new members, Wes Carey, has been accepted to participate in this year's CTU Youth Camp.  Wes will receive a full tuition Grant from our chapter.

Wes is age 15, and a native Coloradan who lives in Parker and is a Freshman at Chaparral High School there.  He believes he gets my passion for fishing from his Grandpa, as did most of the other grandkids.

Wes’s mom also likes to fish.  Her favorite thing to do is fish on the river, like she did with her Dad, growing up.  He says, “Mom taught me how to bait hooks with night crawlers - just like her Dad taught her.”

A beginning fly fisher, Wes recently was given his Grandpa’s hand-me-down bamboo rod.  His parents had it appraised and he was surprised at its value, so he bought another rod to use until he becomes more experienced.

Wes says, “I really like to rollerblade and do tricks.  My friends and I have been checking out all the skate parks in the Denver metro area.  We like to ride the Light Rail downtown to the Denver Skate park (the one you see on TV at the end of the news.)  I also love to go snowboarding - my favorite ski area is Winter Park.”

Most of Wes’s friends are either on the Lacrosse or Baseball teams in high school, as well as the other sports mentioned earlier that they do together.  He says, “I wish Chaparral had a fishing club or better than that - a Fishing Team; then I could be fishing while the team sports practices are going on during the week, instead of waiting for them to come home!”

Wes’s favorite school subject is Adventure Experience, and he reports that, “I'm normally a B student when I get all of my homework assignments turned in.”  He’s planning to keep his grades up too, so he can get his driver’s permit.

He says, “People ask me what I want to be in life when I grow up??  What I tell them is that I want to be a World Renown Professional Fishing Person.”
