Happy New Year
CCA Fish Strikes
I can hardly wait for January 12th meeting. We have Bill Dvorak presenting:
|
Dvorak’s Fly Fishing Expeditions Presentation by
Bill Dvorak “Black Canyon of the Gunnison Gorge”
Bill
Dvorak began fishing in his early youth in the
fifties on the
Tongue River that bordered the ranch he grew up on near Sheridan,
Wyoming. He has fly fished extensively throughout the Rocky Mountain
west and internationally in Australia and New Zealand. He is not
only an accomplished fisherman, but is a whitewater outfitter (that
guides on all the rivers (9) in his company) as well as
kayaks,
is an environmentalist, mountaineer and many more traits that will
compliment his outfitting business. Est.
1969 Bill began
commercial outfitting the now “Black Canyon National
Park’s”
Gunnison Gorge in 1982 at the same time as Gabe Magtutu of
Double
Haul Float Trips. Bill pioneered the float fishing style in
the
Gorge during the next few years. He was able to create a unique
style of outfitting in this deep, narrow canyon with its limited
access (12 total persons per launch) making it available to the avid
anglers from rafts. In the
recent years Bill’s company, Bill Dvorak’s
Kayak and Rafting Expeditions has
hosted television
crews from National Geographic, ESPN- Southwest Fly Fishing Magazine
and Joe
Humphries’s filming of
an instructional fly fishing video through the Gorge during the stone
fly hatch. Dvorak’s have also had their float fly-fishing
trips
featured in a number of magazine articles like Southwest Fly-fishing
Magazine. Dvorak Expeditions currently offer guided float and wade/walk fly- fishing trips on the Arkansas River, an excellent Brown Trout fishery for most months of the year (famous for it’s caddis hatch in mid April through mid May); the Colorado River in the Kremmling and Glenwood Springs areas; the North Platte through Northgate Canyon in Colorado and Wyoming; the Dolores, San Miguel and Uncompahgre Rivers in southwest Colorado; and last but not least the lower Gunnison River and the Gunnison Gorge (renown for it’s Giant stonefly hatch late May through mid June). Bill is respected for not only his guided fishing trips but as a legend with the whitewater rafting outfitters. Bill has accumulated over 60,000 river miles of experience in his career and is Colorado’s 1st licensed river outfitter. During his presentation he will touch on the fishing highlights of the Gunnison Gorge, Arkansas River and share with you some of his secret waters. Slides – Video and years of experience will make for a great evening. |

I can hardly wait for
February 9th meeting. We have Pat Dorsey presenting Winter Fly Fishing.
|
2001 Orvis Guide of the year
Pat will also sign copies of his book: Orvis-Endorsed guide PAT DORSEY, who has been guiding for more than ten years, spends at least 200 days a year on the stream. Pat is also a master fly tier who has been commercially tying flies for more than fifteen years, producing up to 28,000 flies a year. Active in Trout Unlimited and the conservation of cold-water fisheries, Pat has won the annual Master Fly Tournament in Cheesman Canyon five out of eight years. Pat, his wife, Kim, and their five children reside in Parker, Colorado. |
This was a very well attended meeting. I counted 52 people. Paul started with talking about sampling fish population information using electro-shock and other methods. He talked mainly about his management area. Fishing on clear creek is better above Idaho Springs. Evergreen Lake has tiger muskies.
